Robin on Bitcoin Cycles and Building Positions in Stages

In XT’s AMA, Bitcoin and gold trader Robin explained why different assets serve different purposes in her portfolio—and why short-term uncertainty had not changed her longer-term crypto conviction.

When gold pulled back shortly before the discussion, Robin said she bought more. She described her gold holdings as a way to preserve wealth for the next generation.

Robin (Robin不肉), a Bitcoin and gold trader, said older family members had first introduced her to buying gold. She had done little trading in it over the previous two years. Crypto played a different role. She described a medium- to long-term approach: sell after prices have risen far enough in a bull market, then look to buy again in a bear market. She did not claim to catch every bottom or sell at every top.

That distinction framed her contribution to XT’s discussion about macroeconomic data, technology earnings, and risk assets. She paid attention to economic signals, but her decisions also depended on why she owned an asset and how long she intended to hold it.

Macro data as a reference for a longer holding period

Robin’s preferred economic backdrop was stronger growth alongside easing inflation. She wanted to watch GDP and PCE data, and she saw interest rates as the most influential of the three forces the panel was asked to compare: rates, growth, and earnings.

She also resisted treating any single indicator as a complete explanation for market behavior. In her account, oil prices, geopolitical developments, inflation, and incoming economic releases all belonged in the picture.

“But for long-term investors like us, I think these broader economic data points can only serve as a reference. We don’t need to worry too much.”

The comment expressed how she weighed macro news against a longer investment horizon. It did not mean she expected the market to be calm. Before an economic release, she cautioned against making a directional bet on the result. Her preference was to build spot positions in stages.

Strong conviction, with a separate decision about leverage

Robin supported that approach with her own account of buying. She said she had continued buying Bitcoin regularly during a period of pronounced market fear and had added to her gold holdings after a pullback.

Her conviction was strong. She remained optimistic about a crypto bull market over the following two to three years and said it would be hard for incoming data to change that view. She said she would add to her position if unfavorable indicators triggered a decline, potentially becoming fully invested.

At the same time, she argued against opening leveraged contract positions before a bull market was established, citing large price swings and the risks they created. Her bullish outlook coexisted with caution about leverage and the timing of a trade.

She was also more optimistic than Houshanren about AI-related market risk. Robin said she thought the AI bubble was smaller than feared and considered a localized decline more likely than a broad, 2020-style selloff across assets. That was her assessment of the risks, rather than a guarantee against a market-wide decline.

A crypto rally would still require selectivity

Robin’s optimism did not extend to an assumption that every altcoin would rise together. In the audience Q&A, she described a possible sequence in which money moved from Bitcoin into other major cryptoassets and then into altcoins.

Under that view, Bitcoin moving sideways on its own would offer less support for an independent altcoin rally than a period of consolidation following a Bitcoin advance. Even then, she expected opportunities to be uneven: some categories could move substantially while others remained quiet.

She anticipated capital rotating between sectors rather than a broad rally across all altcoins. That left a practical distinction within her bullish view: confidence in the wider cycle did not remove the need to decide which assets to hold, how to enter, and when to take on additional risk.
