Erigon’s Support Will End in December 2025

The Network has stated that all the Erigon node operators have to complete their migration to either Reth or Geth three (3) years from now, on December 31st, 2025, as a matter of sound operating procedure. For optimal results, it is advisable to take time to evaluate your current environment and start testing and migrating as quickly as possible to facilitate a seamless transfer process.

“As the network continues to advance performance and stability, the recommended client list is being refined to support the ecosystem’s long-term needs.”

A New Client Will Be Introduced – Reth-BSC

The next generation of the blockchain community will see the introduction of a new execution client called Reth-BSC. Reth-BSC will be built using Rust, focusing on significantly increasing execution speed and reducing resource consumption. (Lower maintenance costs). Reth-BSC will employ a modular architecture that allows for future upgrades regarding performance and scalability as users increase within the network.

“BNB Chain is adding support for Reth-BSC, a high-performance Rust-based client offering improved speed, lower resource usage, and a modular design built for the future.

Multi-Client Ecosystem

The network has reiterated its commitment to embracing a diverse set of clients, which is necessary for the decentralization and security of the network. Going forward, the network will provide official support for two execution clients, Reth (Rust-based) and Geth (Go-based), which decrease systemic risk and increase the overall resiliency of the network.

“By adopting both Reth and Geth, the network maintains strong client diversity, which is essential for security and stability.”

The ecosystem stressed that any node operator currently running an Erigon client must migrate to either Reth or Geth by December 31, 2025. As best practice, early testing and migration are recommended to ensure a seamless and uninterrupted transition.

Developer Reminder to Prepare for the Sunset of Erigon

According to the recent update on X by the developers of the network, communicated to users via the Erigon client to inform them about the need for node operators to begin migrating to one of the other supported alternatives by December 31, 2025.
